The Bronze Report caught up with cast members of The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess before opening night in San Francisco. Alicia Moran Hall (Bess) and Nathaniel Stampley (Porgy) star in the touring production of this Tony Award-winning musical -- replacing Audra McDaniel and Norm Lewis from 2012 Broadway revival. San Francisco is their first stop on the 20-city tour.
The red carpet was hot on opening night of the newly renovated, newly restored Howard Theatre in Washington DC. A homecoming for some… like Smokey, and Dionne Warwick. They played there during its heyday, and what a long and storied time it was.
The Lorraine Hansberry has undergone a renaissance of its own… so it seemed fitting … when host of The Bronze Report Barbara Rodgers stopped by, Pearle Cleage’s play about the Harlem Renaissance was onstage… Blues For an Alabama Sky.
"Lorraine Hansberry's talent was even more exceptional given what she was able to do in the 1950s. At a time when black writers were not being noticed, she was visionary, she was absolutely amazing.
