VIP Premiere of 'From the Rough' Featured

The Bronze Report's Jan Mabry went to Hollywood for the VIP premiere of From the Rough, starring Taraji P. Henson and the late Michael Clarke Duncan.

This inspiring story is abut Tennessee State University coach Catana Starks. Taraji P. Henson reincarnates this powerhouse of a woman who took a motley crew of golfers recruited from all over the world, to the National Minority Championships... and won.  Henson always tackles difficult roles.  She told TBR playing Starks was hard and easy at the same time.  "Hard because she was a real person, still alive to critique you," said Henson.  "Easy because she was right there, available and resourceful, any question I had, she answered."

From the Rough was a long time coming.  After principle photography wrapped, there were several edits before the producers felt they had it right.  Co-star Michael Clarke Duncan passed away in 2012, and would never see the film's release.  Still, everyone persevered and the film finally was released in 2014.  "I think it's a lot of hard work to do an independent film," said director Pierre Bagley, "...a strong belief in making it happen, and we were lucky that everyone associated with the film was very passionate."

Henson says everyone will be inspired by this film.  "You can do anything you put your mind to," she said.  "I came out here with $700 in my pocket and my son, and look... we're here for my movie that I'm starring in."

From the Rough is in theatres now.  Check it out... and remember, 'it's all about believing.'
