Jazz Singer Dianne Reeves

Four- time Grammy-award winning jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves is on The Bronze Report. The Bronze Report's Jan Mabry caught up with her backstage when Cal Performances presented her at Zellerbach Auditorium.

"There were a lot of musicians in my family, great aunts and uncles who were entertainers, wonderful musicians, my mother's brother for 43 years was with the Colorado Symphony and George Duke was in my family, if you didn’t play an instrument, you played really great music," says Reeves.

As far as the inspiration behind her music, Reeves explains, "It wasn’t any one person, because everyone was so amazing, when I came up music didn't have boundaries.  You  could hear Marvin talk about Sarah Vaughn...  you could hear Ella Fitzgerald singing the  Beatles... you could go to a concert and there’d be Ravi Shankar and Miles Davis. I mean it was just music and it was rich… people were active listeners, they wanted to hear what you had to say and were patient about the music."
